Financial Reporting & Auditing Technical Training

All finance professionals need to stay abreast of the changes and challenges in the technical spheres of financial reporting, assurance and regulation. Often the detail can be complex and dry and the relevance may not always be clear.

We highlight and explain the fundamental changes in an engaging, participative and understandable way.  We include practical case studies to bring the material to life and make it easy to apply. Our core offering includes UK GAAP, including FRS100-102, IFRS audit and assurance, company law and anti-money laundering.

We deliver training to accountants and finance professionals working both in Professional Practice and in industry and commerce.

Case Study: Fairhurst, Audit Skills Workshops

Fairhurst Accountants Technical Training by Insight TrainingWe have been delivering practical audit skills workshops for Fairhurst Accountants for 10 years. Fairhurst are an independent, 8 partner chartered accountancy practice based in Wigan, with over 60 staff and 2000 clients.

The audit skills workshops are delivered to between 8 and 12 members of the Firm’s audit department (from junior to partner level) at a time. Our detailed understanding of the Firm’s audit methodology has enabled the workshops to be particularly impactful.

We regularly talk to senior members of the audit team to understand the issues that staff are facing and devise case study-based workshops to address these issues.

Topics covered in recent years have included:

  • Effective analytical review
  • Documenting systems and conducting tests of controls
  • Carrying out going concern and subsequent events reviews
  • Common financial statements problem areas
  • FRS 102 transition
  • Auditing charities – common problem areas
  • Fraud hot spots

“Peter is an engaging, insightful speaker, which promotes a healthy interest in the audit and accountancy topics that he presents. With his background and experience he can, and does, impart technical and practical skills to all levels of our partners and staff. His enthusiasm and willingness to discuss and debate contentious issues is a real bonus to this firm.”

Case Study: DSG Chartered Accountants, FRS 102 Workshops

DSG Chartered AccountantsDSG has offices in Liverpool, Southport and North Wales. We deliver annual half-day financial reporting updates for the firm. During the last two years these have focused increasingly on the FRS 102 implementation issues faced by their clients.

In advance of the updates we talk to managers and partners in the firm about the practical FRS 102 implementation issues that their clients are facing. This helps shape the content of the sessions. A number of the Firm’s clients attended the sessions that we ran in 2014 and 2015 and found them very helpful.

Key areas of focus have been:

  • What FRS 102 financial statements will actually look like – we used sample accounts to bring this area to life
  • Transitional adjustments – we used a practical case study to emphasise key points
  • Accounting for non-market rate loans
  • Current thinking on the calculation and amortisation of goodwill and other intangibles
  • Latest guidance on the required audit approach required in respect of FRS 102 accounts

“Thanks for the course last week Peter – very well received as ever and gave us and clients a good pragmatic overview of FRS 102”
